Description

During the reign of the Romans, it existed as a city called Teranda, tradition says, of great proportions.

During the rule of the Eastern Roman Empire, i.e. Byzantium is the first time we meet its current name, but in a slightly different form: Prizrenum, Presarin, Prezren, Prizdren, and most often Prizdrijana.

Finally, during the reign of King Milutin, it was elevated to the rank of capital, as it was later by Stefan Dečanski, Emperor Dušan and Emperor Uroš. At that time, they were built in a monumental manner and decorated with paintings, enriched with icons, objects of artistic craft and gifted with manuscript books of the Virgin of Ljeviška, the Holy Archangels, the Holy Spas, and the Holy Nicholas.

The bridge over Bistrica, Mehmed Pasha's Hamam, Bajrakli Mosque and Sinan Pasha Mosque remain from the time of the Turkish rule.
